Environmental Standards
The Lakes Free Range Egg Co was developed to be a centre of excellence in the packing and supply of eggs to the retail and food service industry.
This had to include standards at least as good as the best others in the industry can offer.
Environmental Standards
These are simple we aim to improve the environment by our efforts.
- All farmer egg producers have Bio-diversity Action Plans in place as a condition of supply.
- All farmer egg producers are at least DEFRA Entry Level Environmental Scheme approved with many going on to higher level schemes or already in Environmentally Sensitive Area Schemes.
- Our Cumbrian farms, all within 30 miles of the Packing Centre, means we
keep food miles to the minimum and the benefits of our endeavours within the local community. - Through use of Environwise auditors and consultancy we aim to reduce waste and energy consumption and increase efficiency.
- Close liaison with FWAG (Farm Wildlife Advisory Group) and others such as RSPB and Forestry Commission allow us to aid the environment on our farms in the most beneficial and effective ways such as re planting and repairing many kilometres of traditional hedging. Repairing and screening many kilometres of dry stone walling and planting 10’s of 1000’s of natural broadleaved trees.
